Lacuna Coil is an Italian goth metal band formed in Milan, Italy, in 1996. It were erstwhile referred to as Sleep of Perfect & Ethereal.

Biography
Their music is inspired by gothic imagery, using melodic guitar lines, alternate heavily & lightly vocals, & a trifle of pop influence. Based on data from themselves, a band is influenced by elastic prefer Paradise Lost, Tiamat, Septic Flesh and Type O Negative.

A band formed when Sleep of Perfect around 1994, but shortly experienced their title changed to Ethereal, & were signed by Century Media at the prevent of 1997. Searching for that a title Ethereal was already taken, it settled instead in Lacuna Coil (a nearest english translation is "empty spiral": "lacuna" is an Italian word from a Latin meaning lack of memory or emptiness, "Coil" is of course English and means spiral).

A band consisted at that point of co-vocalists Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro with bassist Marco Coti Zelati. the band recorded a self highborn EP, released inside 1998, and went on the road supporting label-mates Moonspell. A band was accompanied for this tour by guitar player Cristiano Migliore and drummer Cristiano Mozzati.

Charted another European tour, the band recorded their debut good-length album, In a Reverie, and added 2nd guitar player Marco Biazzi. A band supported a album sustaining an additional European tour, co-headlining with Skyclad.

Inside 2002, the band freed Comalies, an album which received acclaim & rave reviews from either tons corners of the metal world.
